How To Wax A Car

If you want your car to shine like a million, you’ve got to get the wax right. Waxing a car isn’t hard – it just has to be done carefully.

Step One: Wash the car. Use a strong detergent for pre-wash to remove old wax or dirt build up, then wash with a car shampoo.

Step Two: Prepare the car. Use a clay bar to remove any embedded dirt. Be sure to lubricate it with a product such as Born Slippery made by Dodo Juice, to avoid scratches. Polish using a random orbital machine for best results.

Step Three: Apply the wax. For soft waxes use a foam applicator. Apply hard waxes by hand. Allow time to cure (typically 5-15 minutes depending on the wax).

Step Four: Buff your wax. Always use a very soft cloth, it’s best to use one designed for this purpose.

If you maintain you finish well, and only use PH neutral mild car shampoos such as Dodo Juice Born to Be Mild you can expect your finish to last up to three months.

My daughter called me last night from her a friend’s house with a real problem. Although she just got her driver’s license and has only been driving on it for a few months, she started learning to drive a long time ago and is a very good driver, but she’s no mechanic. Her problem was a battery that had apparently died and now she couldn’t get the car started. Fortunately she had a portable car battery charger with her, and she was able to get on her way, with a little help from Dad, of course. When she got home I told her that if something had to go wrong with ther car, a battery dying is one of the best things that could happen. It’s easy to replace, and the cost is relatively low. Batteries will last quite a while, usually about 5 years, but when they lose their charge you need a way to revive them. That’s when battery chargers for cars become important.

Folks without a lot of experience or mechanical savvy with cars – kind of like my daughter -will wonder why a battery would die in the first place. The culprit in a lot of cases is simply forgetting to turn the headlights off. On newer vehicles that have an automatic shutoff system for the lights, this is not a big deal, but there are still plenty of cars out there that have to have the headlights manually shut off. When the lights are left on, the stored battery power is used up and the battery dies.
